Join the Biketober Challenge



There’s never been a better time to enjoy riding bike! The Biketober Business Challenge runs throughout October
and we'd like to invite you all to take part. Sign up before 1 October for your chance to win an eBike worth $3,899.

It's a fun, free competition with loads of prizes that you can win by riding and encouraging your friends and colleagues to do the same.

Riding a bike is a great way to get your daily exercise, boost your mood and your immune system and an easy and fun way to travel from A to B while avoiding crowds.

If you haven't ridden in years, don't worry! You only have to ride a bike for 10 minutes for your participation to count towards our team's score. Ride anywhere, anytime during the Challenge (doesn't have to be a trip to work!).

If you already ride - you already know how enjoyable riding is and how good it makes you feel. So, here's your chance to get your workmates to experience how easy and enjoyable riding can be.

Importance of taking annual leave



Dear colleagues,


This year has been a challenging year for everyone. We have all faced significant changes in our personal and professional lives. For some COVID-19 has created a level of work intensity not experienced before.


More than ever it is important that we take breaks to refresh and recharge. With Christmas approaching I encourage everyone to review their annual leave plans and think about opportunities to take these breaks.


Requesting annual leave


The process to submit your annual leave is now much simpler, faster and easier with the online form available via the SARA Customer Portal.


Online leave forms can be accessed via the SARA portal.


You can also navigate to the SARA portal from a button on the WSLHD intranet home page.


Key benefits for using SARA online leave forms:

  • Accessible anywhere and at any time via smart devices

  • Checks your leave balances  

  • Automated approval workflow

  • See the progress of your request at any time

  • Sends an invitation to you and your manager’s outlook calendar to add your approved leave

  • Interfaces with Stafflink to ensure your details are correct.

  • Pre-populates your leave application with your Stafflink details saving time and effort


Please ensure that all leave, once approved, is entered in HealthRoster by the relevant manager or Rostering Unit.


Integration with HealthRoster is still being assessed by eHealthNSW.

While annual leave remains an important contributor to wellbeing, I encourage you also to make the most of our employee support services. Our Workplace Wellness team, the COVID staff hotline and our Employee Assistance Program are here to help you.

Flexible Working Policy Consultation



Dear colleagues,

WSLHD promotes flexible working, acknowledging the different needs and preferences employees may have with respect to how they work.


COVID-19 has changed the way we all work and live. It has also shown us that we can continue to deliver quality services for the community while embracing flexible work arrangements.


You have told us that flexible working increases your job satisfaction and improves your productivity. We are committed to supporting staff to work at their best, enabling them to better manage their work and other life responsibilities, whilst ensuring service needs are met. 


On this basis our Flexible Working Policy has been updated to reflect the changing needs of our staff.


A draft of this policy is now available to all staff, so that anyone who would like to provide comment or feedback can do so. The draft policy and Flexible Working Factsheet are attached.


Please share your feedback by emailing WSLHD-HumanResources@health.nsw.gov.au. The consultation period will be open until 9 October. Following consultation with staff and unions the policy will be finalised and made available for staff.

SMS a Chaplain



Our friendly chaplaincy team at Westmead Hospital provide emotional and spiritual support to the hospital community of patients, family members, carers and staff. You might have seen us visiting patients on the wards, conducting prayer services in the chapel, or engaging with you in our department.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the ways in which we live and work. Like many others, our team has had to make changes to how we work. While some of our previous services, like our Christian prayer service, our Catholic Mass and Friday Muslim prayers, have been suspended for the time being, we are offering some new ways that are COVID-19 safe for you to reach out and receive support.

Maybe you want to have a chat with someone, but aren’t able to meet face-to-face.
Maybe you’re a staff member and would like to make a quick referral. You can send us a text any time on 0437 842 315.
Our chaplains respond to any messages between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday.
